Lotus Room Concept

Photograph Courtesy of Luke Hayes
The studio’s concept hotel room was revealed for the first time in the Corderie dell’Arsenale during the XIth Venice Architecture Biennale. Rather than dictated by its setting, the Lotus room was anchored in its own context and had a transformative effect on its surroundings. The piece unfolded from a tightly compressed mass into tendrils, to reveal spaces for sitting, storage, dining or resting, including a mobile desk with chair, bed, shelving, a wardrobe rail and room divider and table. The flexibility of the space was intended to provoke a new interpretation of the conventional static fittings of a hotel room.
